Garage Drywall Revitalization in Naugatuck, CT

A Naugatuck Customer’s Garage Drywall Removal and Replacement Journey

See our AMAZING RESULTS below!

Hi! I’m Amy Prihoda, and I’m proud to carry on my family’s business, Professional Cleaning & Restoration Systems of Connecticut. My family has been helping homeowners since 1987, and we treat every customer like family. We do a lot more than cleaning, too — we handle restoration jobs like water damage repair. One project that sticks with me is a garage drywall removal and replacement in Naugatuck, CT. A homeowner called us because a roof leak had wrecked the walls of their garage. If your garage walls ever look stained, saggy, or strange, don’t wait — reach out, and we’ll take a look.

Here’s Our Naugatuck Customer’s Story

The customer noticed something was off in their garage. There was a dark stain creeping across the ceiling and down the wall. Then the drywall started to bubble and sag. A roof leak had been quietly dripping water behind the walls, and the damage was done. Have you ever spotted a stain and hoped it would just go away? It never does. Water finds the low spots and keeps working. Drywall and water do not get along, either. When drywall gets soaked, it turns soft, heavy, and crumbly — kind of like a graham cracker left in a glass of milk. There was no way to patch over it. The only real fix was full garage drywall removal and replacement. That’s where we came in.

Water Where It Shouldn’t Be: What We Found

When we arrived, we saw the story the leak had written. Brown rings stained the ceiling. The wallboard bulged outward in one corner. The paper face of the drywall peeled away in places, and a musty smell hung in the air. That smell matters. Wet building materials can lead to mold if they sit too long, and mold is a whole different problem.

So we did what we always do first: we stopped, looked, and listened. We traced the moisture, checked how far the water had spread, and explained the plan to the customer in plain words. No jargon. No pressure. Just a clear picture of what needed to happen and why. The customer wanted their garage back — dry, clean, and strong — and we wanted that too.

We also checked the area with moisture meters. You can’t always see water damage with your eyes. Moisture hides inside walls the way a sponge holds water after you wring it out. Our meters tell us exactly where the wet spots are, so nothing gets missed. That step saves headaches later.

Out With the Old: Careful, Clean Removal

Taking out damaged drywall sounds simple. But doing it the right way takes care. We protected the customer’s belongings and the floor first. Nobody wants a dusty mess all over their tools, bikes, and storage bins. Then we cut out every bit of wet, weakened drywall. We didn’t just remove the ugly parts. Water travels, so we checked behind and around the damage to make sure nothing damp was left hiding.

Why does that matter? Because leaving soggy material behind is like putting a fresh bandage over a splinter. It looks fine on top, but the problem is still there. Once the old drywall was out, we let the space dry completely and made sure the structure behind the walls was sound. Clean, bare, dry studs — that’s a perfect blank slate.

Some companies rush this part. We don’t. We kept the dust down, hauled away every piece of the old drywall, and left the work area tidy and safe at the end of each day. A job site should never look like a storm hit it.

In With the New: A Smooth, Solid Replacement

Now for the fun part. We hung brand-new drywall, piece by piece, fitting each panel snugly against the next. Then came the taping and the joint compound — that’s the mud that hides the seams. We apply it in thin layers, letting each one dry before the next. It’s a lot like frosting a cake. You don’t dump all the icing on at once. You build it up slowly until the surface is smooth.

After the final coat dried, we sanded everything until the walls felt even and silky. Then we finished the surface so the new drywall matched the rest of the garage. The new walls looked crisp, clean, and brand new. The ugly stains, the sagging, the bubbles — all gone. Where there had been damage, there was a smooth, strong wall ready for years of everyday life.

We also matched the texture of the new walls to the old ones so everything blends together. A patch that screams “I’m new here” is no good. The goal is for the repair to disappear.

Smooth Walls and a Job Well Done

The job turned out very well. The garage went from water-stained and worn to dry, clean, and like new. Best of all, the source of the problem — the roof leak — was dealt with, so the customer didn’t have to worry about the same damage happening all over again.

Water damage can feel overwhelming. But with the right team, it’s just a series of small, careful steps. Remove the wet stuff. Dry what’s left. Build it back right. That’s how a big problem becomes a done deal.

That’s the goal with every garage drywall replacement we do. We don’t want to just cover up a problem. We want to remove the damage, rebuild what was lost, and leave the space better than we found it. A garage should be a place where things stay dry and safe. Now this one is exactly that.

And what does the customer think?

The customer was thrilled with how everything turned out. They told us how happy they were to open the garage door and see clean, smooth walls instead of stains and sagging panels. Hearing that never gets old. It’s why my family has been doing this work since 1987.

As an IICRC-certified, second-generation family business, we stand behind our work. We’ve been serving Connecticut neighbors for decades, and we plan to keep doing it for decades more.

If a roof leak or water damage has left your walls stained, soft, or crumbling, don’t live with it. Drywall damage only gets worse with time — and water never fixes itself.
